In the telecommunications industry, a VHF Optical Distributed Antenna System (DAS) is a fiber-optic-based signal distribution solution designed to extend and enhance Very High Frequency (VHF) band coverage—typically in the 136–174 MHz range—across large, complex, or shielded environments.
Unlike traditional coaxial-based systems, an optical DAS converts RF signals into optical signals for transmission over fiber optic cables, enabling ultra-low loss, long-distance transport, and centralized management of multiple remote units. This architecture is widely adopted for public safety networks, airport communications, railway dispatch systems, and industrial private LTE/PMR networks, where reliable, interference-free VHF connectivity is mission-critical.
The ATNJ VHF Optical DAS System is a comprehensive fiber-optic repeater solution consisting of two primary modules:
- Main Unit (MU) – A 2U 19" rack-mountable optical server that interfaces with the donor base station
- Remote Unit (RU) – An IP65-rated remote radio head supporting wall or pole mounting for outdoor deployment
- Multi-band system support
- Optical transmission up to 10km (maximum)
- OMS Lite local/remote control support
- Low noise and high reliability operation
- Each master unit supports up to 8 remote units
- Donor signal parameter monitoring for easy optimization and troubleshooting
